74th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting – featuring these topics on the agenda:
• Artificial Intelligence in Chemistry: How Is It Changing the Game?
• Can a Circular Chemistry Conceptual Framework Be Adopted as a Way Forward to Sustainability?
• Global Challenges, Global Solutions: The Role of Science Diplomacy
• Science Communication in a Connected/Wired World
In addition: an opportunity to experience the unique atmosphere in which Nobel Laureates and Young Scientists not only discuss chemistry but that also provides space for conversation in an informal personal manner.
Around 35 Nobel Laureates have confirmed their participation in the Meeting, among them John M. Jumper, recent Nobel Laureate for his research in computational protein design. From Sunday, 29 June, to Friday, 4 July, they will encounter the next generation of scientific talent in Lindau – over 600 young researchers representing more than 80 nationalities. This year’s programme revolves around a wide range of topics in chemistry that are particularly relevant to society at large: the impact of AI on Chemistry and the contribution of circular Chemistry to sustainability.
Structure and Programme Highlights
The programme at the Inselhalle starts on Sunday, 29 June at 14:00, with an opening ceremony featuring Nobel Laureates Frances H. Arnold, Ben L. Feringa, and Sir David W.C. MacMillan among others. During a press reception in the evening, media representatives will have the opportunity to meet international colleagues as well as the Lindau communications team.
In the course of the following four days, various formats come together to form a diverse programme, which features four additional Lindau premieres: Moungi G. Bawendi, recipient of the 2023 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his research on quantum dots, will attend as well as Akira Yoshino, awarded with the Nobel Prize 2019 in Chemistry for his work on lithium-ion batteries. His Co-Laureate M. Stanley Whittingham will contribute on-site, having participated in the Online Science Days 2020 and the 70th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting held online 2021. Also, Sir Gregory Winter (Prize in Chemistry 2018 "for the phage display of peptides and antibodies") premiered virtually in 2021 and will deliver his first Lecture in Lindau on the occasion of #LINO25. The same holds true for Thomas C. Südhof, Physiology/Medicine 2013 "for (their) discoveries of machinery regulating vesicle traffic, a major transport system in our cells".
Lectures and Agora Talks will be complemented by panel discussions with Nobel Laureates, Young Scientists, and high-ranking representatives from society and politics. At Lindau’s Next Gen Science Sessions, Young Scientists offer exciting insights into their current research, for example in the fields of artificial intelligence and sustainability. The closing day (4 July) starts with the traditional “Baden-Württemberg Boat Trip” to Mainau Island in Lake Constance.
