The Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (GBM e.V.) will award the prizes listed below in 2026 to promote young scientists. These will be presented at the 77th Mosbach Colloquium (26-28 March 2026 in Mosbach/Baden).
Bayer Pharmaceuticals Doctoral Award of the GBM and GBM Doctoral Award
In 2026, the GBM will award two doctoral prizes to promote young scientists. These prizes will be awarded for the two best doctoral theses on biochemical or molecular biological topics. The doctoral prizes are each endowed with 1,500 euros. The work to be awarded must not be older than two years at the time of the submission deadline.
Dissertations that led to a doctorate at a German university can be submitted. Self-nominations are possible, as are nominations by supervisors. The decisive factor is the above-average quality of the work; membership in the GBM is not a prerequisite. These prizes will be awarded at the 77th Mosbach Colloquium (26-28 March 2026 in Mosbach/Baden). The GBM would appreciate it if the prize winners could accept their prizes in person and give a lecture at the Mosbach Colloquium.
Otto Meyerhof Prize from Boehringer Ingelheim and the GBM for young investigators
In 2026, the GBM will award the Otto Meyerhof Prize to promote young scientists. The prize will be awarded for outstanding research work in a field of biochemistry and molecular biology relevant to the GBM (see the main topics of the GBM study groups: https://gbm-online.de/studiengruppen.html). The prize will be awarded to an outstanding young scientist who received their doctorate no more than eight years prior to the deadline for submissions and who is currently conducting research in Germany.
For doctorates in medicine, the maximum period is nine years. Family-related interruptions of up to two years per child may also be taken into account.
The prize is endowed with 5,000 euros. The prize money is donated by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharma. The Otto Meyerhof Prize will be awarded at the 77th Mosbach Colloquium (26-28 March 2026 in Mosbach/Baden). The prize includes an invitation to give a lecture.
Nominations by colleagues are possible, as are self-nominations. The decisive factor is the above-average quality of the research work; membership in the GBM is not a prerequisite.
Please send the required documents for the nominations in electronic form by 30 November 2025 by email to awards@gbm-online.de.
Please combine all documents into a single PDF file (< 15 MB). Nominations must include (in this order):
• Contact details of the candidate and the nominator or supervisor
• Curriculum vitae of the nominated young scientist
• List of publications
• Letter of motivation or letter of recommendation from the person proposing the award-worthy work
• Overview of the highlights of the research activities (max. 3 pages)
• Max. 5 PDFs of the most important publications
If you have any questions, please contact the GBM office (telephone: 069 – 660 567-0).
