The Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden (abbrev. IPF in German) is set to play an even more prominent role in Germany’s Excellence Strategy. Researchers from the institute are contributing as Core Principal Investigators (PIs) to four Clusters of Excellence, which will receive funding over the next seven years. This particularly strong and diverse involvement underscores the relevance of the IPF’s new research program to top-tier scientific innovation.
Three of the selected clusters are among the 25 newly funded initiatives, while one has secured a second funding phase:
REC² – Responsible Electronics in the Climate Change Era (new) @ TU Dresden

IPF scientists in core team: Professor Dr. Andreas Fery (Vice-Spokesperson), Professor Dr. Ivan Minev
REC² will adopt a holistic approach to responsible electronics, focusing on the development of sustainable material platforms and integrated systems.
PoL – Physics of Life (renewed) @ TU Dresden

PoL bridges physics, biology, and materials science to elucidate how fundamental physical principles govern living systems, enabling the creation of new bioinspired materials.
CARE – Climate-Neutral and Resource-Efficient Construction (new) @ TU Dresden & RWTH Aachen

CARE aims to transform the construction industry through sustainable materials, novel technologies, and efficient production methods to reduce environmental impact and enhance resource efficiency.
BlueMat – Water-Driven Materials (new) @ TU Hamburg

BlueMat investigates bioinspired, water-responsive materials designed to function in aqueous environments or leverage the unique properties of water, providing sustainable alternatives to conventional materials.
Germany’s Excellence Strategy is a joint initiative of the federal and state governments to strengthen world-class research at German universities and research institutions. Each cluster will receive up to 10 million euros annually for the funding period from 2026 to 2032.
