Today, the “Bremen Symposium AI in Health” of the U Bremen Research Alliance is taking place at the Radisson Blu Hotel Bremen. Around 120 participants from academia, medicine, technology, nursing, business, politics, and wider society are discussing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in all areas of health care – from prevention and screening through diagnosis and treatment to rehabilitation and long-term care.
The expert contributions focus on concrete fields of application for AI along the entire care pathway as well as on the question of the conditions under which its use creates real added value for patients and professionals. The opportunities, risks, and limits of AI in the health sector are being discussed, for example with regard to data protection and data sovereignty, transparency and accountability of algorithms, and the impact on work processes in hospitals, rehabilitation, and nursing care. The discussion also addresses the framework conditions for responsible implementation – from regulation and funding to the qualification of skilled staff – and how AI can contribute to sustainable and resilient health care.
In recent years, the state of Bremen has placed a strong emphasis on the intersection of AI and health research. With the “Bremen Symposium AI in Health,” the U Bremen Research Alliance has established a format that makes this development visible and promotes interdisciplinary exchange. Since 2021, the state of Bremen has been supporting application-oriented projects within the U Bremen Research Alliance through the “AI Center for Health Care,” in which AI and health research are closely interlinked. A defining feature is pronounced interdisciplinarity: expertise in machine learning, AI, and robotics comes together with digital medical technology, biosensing, prevention research, and epidemiology. The “Bremen Symposium AI in Health” provides a central platform for bringing these different perspectives together, discussing results, and initiating new collaborations.
The daytime program ends at around 6:00 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., the evening program continues with the i2b meet-up “AI in Health: Biosignals Meet Health & Care” at the Bremen Chamber of Commerce, with interdisciplinary exchange and networking among participants at its core. The evening event is organized by the U Bremen Research Alliance together with idea|2|business GmbH and the Integrated Health Campus Bremen (IGB).
