New digital platform to simplify proposal submission and project management
Bad Homburg v. d. Höhe, May 12, 2026 – The Else Kröner-Fresenius-Stiftung (EKFS) has launched a new online proposal platform. Researchers are now able to submit their proposals digitally and to also manage their projects directly in the portal. The aim is to make the submission of proposals more transparent, efficient, and user-friendly. Technical implementation of the new portal is being carried out by ace Neue Informationstechnologien GmbH, the provider of the xFound funding management platform.
With its new platform, the EKFS is bringing its entire funding management together in one central system for the first time. Researchers are guided through the application process step by step and can submit their project outlines, proposals, and all other required documents online.
Digital access to funding
The platform is for researchers and organizations wishing to apply to the EKFS for funding. After registering, they are granted access to the proposal portal and can view all available funding opportunities.
Detailed information on the EKFS funding lines, calls for proposals, and application requirements will continue to be published centrally, on the EKFS website. Those interested in applying for funding will be directed to the new proposal portal from there.
In future, the portal is to also facilitate communication between the Foundation, funding recipients, and project partners. It could potentially also be used to submit and manage reports, documents, and project-related information digitally.
More efficient processes for funding projects
With its new system, the EKFS is modernizing its internal funding management processes. The increased digitalization should speed up the processing of applications and ensure efficient support for projects over their entire funding period.
“With the new funding portal, we are creating a modern, user-friendly platform for all those who work with the Foundation,” says EKFS Management Board member Dr. Tanja Dangmann. “We aim to make the application process as straightforward as possible, while further improving our support for funded projects.”
Phased roll-out – register now
The new funding portal is being rolled out in phases. From today, applicants of the First and Second Applications, Key Projects and Translational Research of the non-profit subsidiary ForTra gGmbH für Forschungstransfer der Else Kröner-Fresenius-Stiftung (ForTra) are able to register and submit applications via the new portal. Information on registration and use of the portal is available on the respective project page.
The other EKFS funding lines and calls for proposals will also gradually be added to the new system. The platform will be optimized and developed further during the roll-out phase. The Foundation welcomes feedback and input from applicants throughout this process to further optimize the portal.
