Anyone wishing to start a Master’s programme in design or culture at HTW Berlin – University of Applied Sciences in summer semester 2027 may need to begin the application process as early as autumn, well before the usual application deadlines. This applies to the following Master’s programmes: Game Design, Conservation and Restoration, Fashion Design, Public Design and System Design. Please note: As the language of instruction is German, a good command of German is required.
Some design and culture programmes at HTW Berlin require applicants to pass a suitability assessment. These assessments take place before the general application deadlines. Applicants cannot apply for the programme unless they have passed the suitability assessment. Five Master’s programmes are affected for the coming summer semester:
The first deadline is for the Master’s programme in Fashion Design. Applications for the suitability assessment can be submitted until 1 October 2026. The assessment usually takes place in the first half of November. During an interview lasting around 30 to 35 minutes, applicants discuss their planned Master’s project, samples of their work and their design approach.
For the Master’s programme in Public Design, the required documents must be submitted by 1 November 2026. Following an initial selection, online interviews will take place at the end of November. Applicants will present their interests and previous projects. An online information session on 7 October will provide advance information about the programme and the application process.
The Master’s programme in Conservation and Restoration accepts applications for the suitability assessment until 15 November 2026. The three-day assessment includes both practical and theoretical components: applicants plan and document a restoration project, work on an object and answer questions on topics such as materials, cultural history and examination methods.
Applications for the suitability assessment for the Master’s programme in System Design are also already open. According to the programme website, the application deadline is usually at the end of the first week of December. The assessment interview is scheduled for calendar week 51.
Those interested in the Master’s programme in Game Design can apply for the suitability assessment until 15 December. The assessment interview lasts around 15 minutes, takes place in person and is held once a year, usually in the fourth quarter.
