For the first time Cytocentrics has presented its innovative cell culture kit consisting of Instant Cells, Cell Reservoir and corresponding buffers at the Biophysical Society 51th Annual Meeting in Baltimore, USA in March 2007. Cytocentrics AG, located in Rostock, Germany, is a full service provider for high quality patch clamping.
Single cell based high throughput screening is an indispensable tool for compound testing in the pharmaceutical industry.
Reliable data acquisition and analysis rests upon a high capacity cell culture providing the constant high quality of cells needed. With the Instant Cells Cytocentrics has developed a cell culture system which guarantees a high cell quality at a minimum amount of work, time and money. In contrast to conventional cell culture, frozen Instant Cells are ready to use in less than 15 minutes after unfreezing without further cultivation. Our Instant CHO-K1 line stably expressing the hERG ion channel is an ideal cell system for automated as well as conventional patch clamp screening. The cells are quality controlled by testing their electrophysiological properties in manual patch clamp. Other host cells, e.g. HEK293 cells, expressing the ion channel of the costumer's choice can be easily adapted to the Instant Cells system.
After thawing the Instant Cells can be transferred directly to the Cytocentrics Cell Reservoir, a stand-alone bench-top storage device for suspended cells. It preserves the cells in a non-clustered state (<85% after 3 h) and at a high vitality for at least four hours (>90% trypanblue test).
The Cell Reservoir is suited for a wide rage of applications with high demands on cell quality and intact cell membranes namely patch clamping or fluorescence based cell assays. Different predefined cell maintenance programs are optimised for various cell lines.
