The most successful conference for the last 10 years has developed into the largest global specialized congress in Europe. On June 18th & 19th, 2008 the Institut für Werkstofftechnik of the Kassel University will present for the 7th time the 'Global WPC and Natural Fibre Composites Congress'.

Kassel. The most successful conference for the last 10 years has developed into the largest global specialized congress in Europe. On June 18th & 19th, 2008 the Institut für Werkstofftechnik of the Kassel University will present for the 7th time the 'Global WPC and Natural Fibre Composites Congress'.

The conference concerning natural fibre reinforced plastics (NFK) has since 1998 developed into the most important specialized congress in Europe. This year the promoters are expecting more than 350 participants from all over the world in the Kongress Palais Kassel, a further increase as compared to prior years.

51 speakers, equally divided between industry and research, and coming from all five continents, will report on the newest developments. Remarkable is the strong Asian participation, especially that of the Japanese. At the same time the conference shows an extraordinary increase of representatives from East-European states, especially from Poland.

To what extend regular plastics can be replaced by bio-polymers will be covered in a plenary report "Renewable Resources - What does the Future bring?' held by a representative from BASF SE. The main focus 'Polymers based on renewable raw materials - raw materials, processes and products' runs like a red thread through the program.

State of the art material combinations of natural fibres and plastics have captured a permanent place in the automobile industry. Today no European automobile producer does without natural fibre reinforced plastics that enhance comfort, safety, CO2-reduction and gasoline savings. Plastics are modified worldwide with renewable raw materials such as jute, hemp, abaca, curaua and other natural fibres. WPC's (Wood Plastic Composites) can now be produced containing from approx. 30 to 85 percent wood particles.

Highlights in the automobile sector are forward-looking speeches by representatives of VW AG and Toyota Autobody, complemented by a Canadian speech 'BioAuto Council' and the American contribution 'Advanced Green Composites'.

Werzalit GmbH & Co as well as the Japanese company WPC Corporation will introduce the latest applications of wood filled plastics and introduce the themes 'Production and Processing', that will be represented by among others Coperion, Krauss Maffei Technologies GmbH and Reinelt Henschel MischSysteme GmbH.

Additional centers of importance are the applications in the construction- and furniture industries. Here too, up-to-date topics such as the applications of Nano-materials and recycling are part of the program.

About 30 poster presentations, each accompanied by a short speech, and about 30 other posters as well as interesting company exhibits complement the program.
The global character of the congress is evident by the contributions of 51 speakers coming from 17 different countries.

All speeches will be simultaneously translated German-English, English-German.
