On the 18th of September 2012 more than 60 attendees visited the NMI Natural and Medical Sciences Institute at the University of Tuebingen for the workshop „Optical Sectioning andbeyond: Possibilities and Advances in Light Microscopy“ organised in collaboration with Carl Zeiss Microscopy GmbH. Scientists from disciplines such as neuro-/cell biology, physics and optical technologies experienced a lively scientific programme covering latest advances and technologies in the field of light microscopy.
Eleven presentations by renowned scientists grouped into three sessions brilliantly illustrated diverse strategies of optical sectioning by presenting latest projects of research and development. Themes ranged from confocal strategies for the visualisation of developmental processes or subcellular structures over superresolution approaches blurring the boundaries with electron microscopy to multiphoton microscopy in vivo. The successful workshop was topped off with lively discussions during breaks and an informal get together in a pleasant atmosphere following the scientific programme.
