Germany's first business school offers part-time programs in Cologne as of this fall / Information Evening in Cologne on November 10, 2014
Yesterday, on October 6, 2014, HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management welcomed the first class of the academic part-time Master in Management Program (M.Sc.) for an introduction week at its new study location in Cologne. 28 junior executives started their two-year part-time Master Program. The weekend classes are all taught in Cologne, the two residential weeks per year take place in Leipzig. This approach allows the students from this region to maintain a close connection to the HHL Community in Leipzig while reducing the amount of travel.
Increasing demand for part-time academic on-the-job training
Former State Minister of Economic Affairs of North Rhine-Westphalia and current Dean of HHL, Prof. Dr. Andreas Pinkwart, says, "The successful launch of our part-time M.Sc. Program at HHL's new study location in Cologne attests to the school's great appeal to excellent students as well as the increasing demand for part-time academic on-the-job training. With our new offer in Cologne as an economic metropolis we enable professionals with a Bachelor's degree in the Rhine-Main and Rhine-Ruhr area to complete an ambitious scientific program closer to home while attending to their obligations on the job. In doing so, we are making yet another contribution to close the gap in the Bologna Process, which is still rather large in Germany. Moreover, by choosing Cologne as a second study location we continue the wonderful tradition of successful collaboration between people from Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia which was established by our alumnus Eugen Schmalenbach over 100 years ago and renewed by our (re-)founding deans Ludwig Trappen and Heribert Meffert more than 20 years ago."
Pia Neudert, 23, Market Manager at Deutsche Lufthansa AG in Frankfurt and a new student of the part-time M.Sc. Program, says, "After graduating from my dual study program with Lufthansa as the practical partner and starting my career in revenue management I knew I absolutely had to obtain a Master's degree in order to expand my professional competencies as well as my leadership skills. Thanks to HHL's part-time M.Sc. Program I can continue to work full time while completing a full-fledged academic program at a renowned university. The Cologne study location is just a short trip away from Frankfurt, which positively influenced my decision to choose HHL." Her classmate Aron Ogbayohanes, 28, from the Netherlands, works as an executive for Deutsche Telekom in Bonn. He says, "I am convinced of the content and depth of HHL's M.Sc. Program as well as the culture and identity of the business school. Another deciding factor is HHL's participation in the academic employee development of my company, the so-called Bologna@Telekom Program, which I consider a quality hallmark." Sandra Ziegler, 23, Relationship Manager at BayernLB in Munich, adds, "I am looking forward to expanding my academic knowledge that I have acquired so far, for example, in the field of Finance and Accounting, building on my Bachelor's program. I also expect knowledge transfer between the theory in the business school to practice by case studies with a strong practical relation and other up-to-date study methods."
In addition to today's launch of the part-time M.Sc. Program in Cologne, HHL will offer its part-time MBA Program in General Management not only in Leipzig but in the cathedral city as well starting in March 2015. As a general rule, the program content is the same in Leipzig and Cologne. The classes will be taught by HHL professors as well as experts from practice.
