IMB + FSI = Expertise squared

Sylke Schumann Presse- und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit
Hochschule für Wirtschaft und Recht Berlin

The two central institutes for continuing professional education at the Berlin School of Economics and Law (HWR) Berlin have been merged to create the Institut für Weiterbildung Berlin / Berlin Professional School (IWB / BPS). The IMB Institute of Management Berlin and the Institute for Distance Learning, two leading providers of management training, have combined to form an interdisciplinary centre of excellence in specialist knowledge, teaching and networking.

"Our combined expertise enables the Institute to react and develop even better and faster to new developments and teaching trends," said Prof. Dr. Andreas Zaby, First Vice President of the HWR Berlin responsible for Learning, Continuing Education and International Affairs.

The new Institute provides a range of continuing education courses in General Management provided as full-time and part-time courses, co-operative forms of study and distance-learning courses. The specialist opportunities offered by the Berlin MBA (Master of Business Administration) range from International Management to Entrepreneurship and Health Care Management. The HWR Berlin is one of only four institutions in Germany, and the first University of Applied Sciences, to receive approval for their MBA programme from the internationally-renowned Association of MBAs (AMBA). As such, our programme fulfils the highest of international standards.

The Master's degree programmes culminating in the award of "Master of Arts" or "Master of Science" have a predominantly intercultural orientation, such as the Master's programme "Chinese-European Economics and Business Studies" and "International Business Management." The Institute also offers part-time Master's degree programmes which qualify their holders to take up management positions in the security and care sectors. These are structured as distance learning courses in accordance with blended-learning principles; providing students with greater flexibility in realising an individually-structured course whilst providing the greatest opportunities for networking and the exchange of experience.

"Our mission: imparting management and leadership skills fit for the 21st century - Made in Berlin. This requires an interdisciplinary approach, an international outlook, integrity and innovation", said the Institute director Prof. Dr. Matthias Tomenendal.

Applications for the degree programmes are generally accepted throughout the year. The application period for the next intake of the degree programme "Master of Public Administration" is open until 15 January 2016.
