Hertie School Announces New Scholarship Opportunities

Regine Kreitz Pressestelle
Hertie School of Governance

The Hertie School of Governance is now offering new scholarship and financial aid opportunities for, among others, stipend holders of the German Begabtenförderungswerke (Sponsorship Organisations) as well as US citizens.

Berlin, 6 January 2016 – The Hertie School of Governance is now offering new scholarship and financial aid opportunities to those applying for a position in one of the master’s degree programmes. Students who already hold stipends with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation or any other German Begabtenförderungswerke (Sponsorship Organisation) and who meet the Hertie School’s selection criteria are to receive at least a 25 percent tuition waiver and stand a good chance of obtaining a full scholarship. Further stipends cater specifically for students who are of the first generation in their families to receive higher education as well as for those who have a background in natural sciences or engineering and who wish to apply for the Master of Public Policy (MPP) or Master of International Affairs (MIA). Moreover, bachelor’s degree graduates from developing nations or crisis regions may receive special stipends.

Students from USA can, additionally, apply for financial aid from the US Department of Education, as soon as they have successfully completed the Hertie School’s admission procedure. The MPP was the first Hertie School degree programme to be accredited by the US Department of Education and the MIA, Executive Master of Public Management and Doctoral Programmes have recently followed suit. The Hertie School is one of few German universities to be recognised by the US agency.

Hertie School President Helmut K. Anheier said: “Our goal is to make it possible for talented applicants – regardless of their financial background – to complete their studies at the Hertie School. Thanks to the involvement of our partners among others, this is becoming more and more possible each year. In the 2016/17 academic year the quota of students receiving a stipend will be at almost 50 percent.”

The next cohort of students for the two-year, English-language Masters Programmes as well as the PhD candidates will begin their studies in September 2016. Students wishing to obtain stipends are advised to apply before 1 February 2016, but late applications will be accepted until 1 May 2016.
