Due to the huge success of the first three Euro BioMAT Symposia in Jena (2011) and Weimar (2013 and 2015) this international conference will be held every two years in the Jena-Weimar Region.
“The symposium and exhibition Euro BioMAT 2017, 09.-10. May 2017, addresses the growing interest of science and industry in all aspects of creation, characterization, testing and application of biomaterials and closely related areas”, says Prof. Dr. Klaus D. Jandt of Friedrich Schiller University Jena, who, together with Dr. Thomas F. Keller (Deutsches Elektronen - Synchrotron DESY, Hamburg), is chairman of the conference.
The motivation is not only the recent scientific progress and the new challenges of this exciting, strongly interdisciplinary field of science and engineering. Materials scientists, physicists, chemists, biologists in industrial R&D as well as medical professionals are increasingly facing situations, where materials are confronted with high performance requirements and a challenging biological environment at the same time.
Much of the growth in the area of biomaterials emerged in the USA and Asia over the last years but Europe is gaining ground with a fast and steady growth in this field. The German Materials Society (DGM) and its panel of experts in biomaterials address these developments with the Euro BioMAT 2017 in Weimar.
Euro BioMAT 2017 will present and discuss the current state of progress and novel trends in development, characterization, application, testing and modelling of biomaterials in basic science and industry. In addition, this symposium will bring together experts in closely related areas, such as biomimetics, biomineralization and biopolymers.
The organizers at DGM meet the demand of the European biomaterials community for a compact two-day meeting, which brings together fascinating science and stimulating people with this congress in the delightful setting of historic Weimar in the very heart of Europe. The program of the Euro BioMAT 2017 will comprise several invited plenary lectures as well as oral and poster presentations. The organizers look forward to receiving many contributions to the Euro BioMAT 2017.
Abstract submission deadline: 11. November 2016

About Deutsche Gesellschaft für Materialkunde e.V. (DGM) / German Materials Society
The German Materials Society / Deutsche Gesellschaft für Materialkunde e.V.
(http://www.dgm.de), founded in 1919, is the largest scientific and technical society in the field of materials science and engineering in Germany. The DGM represents the interests of its members ensuring continuous development in the field of materials science and engineering with regard to content, structure and human resources. Furthermore, individual members, companies and universities are part of DGM. The involvement and promotion of young materials scientists and engineers at an early stage is one of the central issues to which DGM applies itself. The spectrum of services for the support and development of young people includes excursions, young DGM local groups, forums, career workshops, academies as well as special publications or alumni meetings.
DGM organises more than 40 continuous education courses with over 600 participants annually. Over 2300 people attend the annual DGM conferences and more than 2500 experts actively participate in 70 technical and working committees of DGM. Therefore, DGM contributes to the transfer of knowledge, the continuous exchange and networking in the field of materials science and engineering.
