HHL's Prof. Dr. Timo Meynhardt and Prof. emeritus Dr. Hans-Jürgen Papier, a former constitutional court judge, publish a book that takes on the topic from different perspectives.
"Freiheit und Gemeinwohl – Ewige Gegensätze oder zwei Seiten einer Medaille" (Freedom and the Common Good – Eternal Opposites or Two Sides of the Same Coin?) is the latest book published by Prof. emeritus Dr. Hans-Jürgen Papier, long-time president of the German Federal Constitutional Court, and Prof. Dr. Timo Meynhardt, Chairholder of the Dr. Arend Oetker Chair of Business Psychology and Leadership at HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management. How can those two terms be interpreted in the present era? Which consequences does that lead to for our very own actions as entrepreneurs, legal practitioners, scientists, and also in partnerships? The publication contains ten texts from renowned scientists in different fields.
Prof. Dr. Meynhardt, who also publishes the Public Value Atlas for Germany and Switzerland, says, "The common good is not palpable but closely connected to how everybody experiences the world. The common good is a social medium and the framework in which people can develop their personalities. It is therefore a condition for individual freedom and is not restricted to the ethical dimension but touches different human basic needs." The thought of the practical exercise of influence is connected by opening up the common good like that, because "you have to want and be able to provide the common good" according to the HHL professor.
The publication was produced and published by TEMPUS CORPORATE and funded by the Haniel Foundation. Dr. Rupert Antes, the Director of the Haniel Foundation, says, "We are very pleased with the latest publication in our series 'Duisburger Dialoge'. The combination of texts offers different views upon and access points into this topic. I hope we have created a starting point for further discussions."
On October 28, 2016 at 7 pm, the book "Freiheit und Gemeinwohl – Ewige Gegensätze oder zwei Seiten einer Medaille" will be presented in a public setting at the Leipzig Federal Administrative Court.
