Journalists invited to cover the Virtual HLF this September 21–25

Traverse separation with a diverse online scientific program

Confronting adversity and adapting quickly can transform some of the inherent hardship into opportunity. Developments throughout this year have provided ample chances to react to a changing world, and the Virtual Heidelberg Laureate Forum (HLF) is one of those responses. Branded with the motto “Virtual HLF –Traversing Separation,” the Forum will take place from Monday, September 21, until Friday, September 25, 2020.

Over twenty laureates from mathematics and computer science will contribute to the program through various fashions: lectures, panel discussions, office hours or interviews. Coupled with these components, a diverse program is enhanced with a poster session by the young researchers and multiple panels spotlighting a range of topics. Apart from the scientific program, there will be satellite events, which include virtual exhibitions and a documentary film.

This year’s Hot Topic session revolves around “eHealth,” a theme that is both timely and has decisive ramifications, not only for science but also for society as a whole. A panel of experts from various specializations will discuss its significance, plus the inherent advantages and vulnerabilities.

Journalists will have access to the vast majority of the program points, save a select few restricted to young researchers and laureates. The live stream will be available for everyone. Most of the program will take place in Zoom whereas some elements will be held in a virtual reality environment. The VR environment is accessible from all desktops and mobile devices, VR goggles/headsets can be used if available but are not necessary.

All journalists interested in covering the Virtual HLF should register via our online tool: https://application.heidelberg-laureate-forum.org/journalists.php

Access information for the Virtual HLF will be sent to all registered participants closer to the event date. Journalists who want to organize interviews with laureates, speakers or other participants should contact: media@heidelberg-laureate-forum.org

Please check out our website regularly for updates regarding the program, starting times, daily schedule, participating laureates and technical details: https://www.heidelberg-laureate-forum.org/forum/virtual-hlf-2020.html

The 8th Heidelberg Laureate Forum, originally planned to take place this September, has been postponed until next year.

    Background
The Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation (HLFF) annually organizes the Heidelberg Laureate Forum (HLF), which is a networking event for mathematicians and computer scientists from all over the world. The Virtual Heidelberg Laureate Forum will take place from September 21 to 25, 2020. The HLFF was established and is funded by the German foundation Klaus Tschira Stiftung (KTS), which promotes natural sciences, mathematics and computer science. The scientific partners of the HLFF are the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies (HITS) and Heidelberg University. The HLF is strongly supported by the award-granting institutions, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the International Mathematical Union (IMU), and the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters (DNVA).

    Hilfe
