The Nobel Prize in Chemistry is receiving digital attention

    Umeå houses great knowledge of the gene editing tool and its revolutionary importance to research. Umeå University also has a renowned research environment and culture, which is undoubtedly an important part in making scientific breakthroughs.

    Due to the pandemic, Umeå University will not be organising a face-to-face event in conjunction with the Nobel Prize Ceremony on 10 December.

    “We are truly proud of Emmanuelle Charpentier and the discoveries she made at Umeå University. We look forward to one day being able to celebrate the Nobel Prize in Chemistry at Umeå University and get the opportunity to invite Emmanuelle Charpentier – which is something we know she is looking forward to as well. But at the moment, the pandemic requires us to take responsibility for our staff, students and fellow citizens,” says Hans Adolfsson, Vice-Chancellor of Umeå University.

    The diploma and medal was handed over to Nobel Laureate Emmanuelle Charpentier at the Swedish Embassy in Berlin.

    Tuesday 8 December 11:00
    Nobel Laureates Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer A. Doudna hold their official Nobel lectures, which will describe the history and background of their discoveries.

    Wednesday 9 December 13:00–15:00
    Emmanuelle Charpentier and Igor Levit will discuss “Learning in Art and Science” in the popular science event Nobel Week Dialogue.

    Igor Levit is a world-renowned pianist and artist in the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and portrait artist of the Philharmonie Essen in the 2020/21 season.

    Nobel Prize Ceremony

    On 10 December, Emmanuelle Charpentier will participate in the podcast called the Nobel Prize Conversation where Adam Smith interviews Nobel laureates about their lives, work, failures and achievements in the purpose of getting to know the people behind the Nobel Prize.
