Topic: Epidemic preparedness beyond Covid-19 – What can be learned from countries with limited resources?

Bad Homburg v.d. Höhe, October 19, 2021 – How can outbreaks of epidemics be detected at an early stage and prevented? What can countries like Germany in the Global North learn from successful projects in the Global South toward preparing for and combating epidemics? On October 26, 2021, Else Kröner-Fresenius-Stiftung (EKFS) is represented at the World Health Summit with the topic “Epidemic preparedness beyond Covid-19 – What can be learned from countries with limited resources?”.

    Date: Tuesday, October 26th, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Place: The workshop will be transmitted via livestream, registration is not required.
    Digital Session: https://worldhealthsummit.zoom.us/j/89330352727
    Meeting ID: 893 3035 2727

Several successful projects in partnership from OECD/DAC countries will be presented at the workshop, among others the award-winning project for this year’s Humanitarian Award from EKFS. The emphasis lies on the strengthening of healthcare systems by supporting and improving routine monitoring systems and the continuous designing, revision and implementation of plans for detection, preparedness and response. The focus of discussion lies less on strategies for combating Covid-19 than on numerous other well-known infectious diseases – for instance acute meningitis, Ebola, the plague, cholera and malaria, to name only a few.

    Speakers:
    • Dr. Joost Butenop, expert consultant for asylum- and migration-based healthcare within public health service on the part of the government of Lower Franconia
    • Dr. Ilka Herbinger, program director for Central and West Africa at WWF, WWF Germany
    • Dr. Judith von Heusinger, chair and in charge of medical-humanitarian funding at Else Kröner-Fresenius-Stiftung
