ESMT Berlin revises its full-time MBA program

European School of Management and Technology (ESMT)

ESMT Berlin has revamped its full-time MBA program to emphasize employability. International exchange, internships, social impact, and German language learning options have been enabled, alongside more opportunities to tailor the curriculum and develop career-relevant skills.

Starting in January of each year, the previously 13-month general management program will now take 15 months to complete and offers greater choice to students. Building upon the existing strong foundation of an integrated core curriculum, industry-led specialization tracks, and a capstone-consulting project, the tailoring begins in the summer term. Students choose between an internship, a social impact project, or intensive German courses. This allows participants to gain highly relevant experience or language skills. The chance to learn German is an important opportunity since more than 80 percent of international students at ESMT work in Germany after graduation. In fall, students choose between an expanded elective offer on campus in Berlin or study at a partner business school for a full semester exchange. Participants complete their final consulting projects in spring of the following year and graduate at an ideal time to enter the job market.

With these changes, the ESMT Full-time MBA continues to focus on providing students with the skills and experiences they need to move ahead in their careers or to change career paths. Academic theory is blended with practical application and complemented by leadership and professional development. Students may choose between three specializations: managerial analytics, innovation and entrepreneurship, and strategic leadership – reflecting the needs of modern business.

“The framework of the previous full-time MBA was already excellent, which is why we retained the fundamental structure of the program,” says Rebecca Loades, director of career accelerator programs at ESMT. “Now, we are giving our students more opportunities to shape their studies, allowing them to choose which additional experiences or skills they need to best re-enter the job market.”

Attracting diverse students from around the world remains a focus of the revised program, which also offers participants more than 25 different scholarships. The current cohort of the ESMT Full-time MBA consists of 40 students from 21 different countries. The class is composed of 48 percent women and 52 percent men and is very well balanced by gender, profile, and nationality.
