Under the title "Space & Transformation: Liveable Futures", the IOER Annual Conference 2022 on 22 and 23 September will focus on fundamental change in neighborhoods, cities, and regions. The conjoined Summer School on 21 September will offer early-stage researchers space to discuss their work. The submission of contributions to the IOER Annual Conference and the Summer School is possible until 31 March.
In the face of rapidly changing social and environmental conditions and high degrees of uncertainty transformative development is key for realizing liveable futures. Human activities, economic practices and settlement patterns have fundamentally altered foundations of life such as regional climate, ecosystem services, biodiversity, and resource availability. In turn, settlements and open spaces are increasingly threatened by natural hazards.
How could possible futures look like that we consider as "liveable" under these conditions? What capacities for adaptation and change, what "transformative capacities" are needed to realize them? And what role does the progressing digitalisation play in this?
The team of the IOER would like to discuss these urgent questions together with guests from science and practice on 22 and 23 September 2022 at the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum Dresden. Interested persons can submit proposals for contributions until March 31.
Submissions in the form of individual contributions (presentation, speed talk) or collective contributions (dialogue session) are possible on the following topics:
- Transformation dynamics and the making of liveable places
- Co-creating futures: Transformative visions, pathways, and experiments
- Liveable landscapes: Towards biological diversity and sustainable ecosystems
- Building liveable futures: Resilience and circular systems of the built environment
- Geomodelling of tomorrow: (Co-)producing spatial data for liveable futures
In addition, an open track is available for contributions that fit the overall conference theme but cannot be attributed to one of the track themes.
Summer School for early-stage researchers on 21 September
On the preceding day of the conference there is the possibility to participate in a Summer School of the Dresden Leibniz Graduate School (DLGS), which will likewise focus on the topic "Space & Transformation: Liveable Futures". Submissions of contributions are welcome from the five thematic strands and the open track of the main conference. Interested persons can submit their contributions via the conference website and indicate in the registration form that their submission is intended for the Summer School.
Background
The IOER Annual Conference is a place for inter- and transdisciplinary exchange. It addresses its questions to both scientists and practitioners. In addition to IOER staff, important protagonists of national, European, and international transformation and spatial research provide impulses for the IOER Annual Conference.
Note
The IOER Annual Conference and the DLGS Summer School will take place as a face-to-face event at the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum Dresden. We are preparing for all eventualities in the context of the corona pandemic including very spacious rooms and a comprehensive hygiene concept. Of course, we are closely monitoring the development and will keep participants informed.
