Linus Dahlander, professor, director of research, and holder of the Lufthansa Group Chair in Innovation at ESMT Berlin, is the winner of the Jan Söderberg Family Prize in Economics and Management of the Lund University School of Economics and Management (LUSEM), endowed with SEK 1 million (around €93,500).

Maria Stanfors, associate dean and professor of economic history at Lund University School of Economics and Management as well as chair of the prize committee, explains why the committee chose Linus Dahlander as the winner of the prize. Not only is his research highly relevant and fully in line with the ambitions of Lund University School of Economics and Management, but his endeavors both also inspire and complement their own research in entrepreneurship and innovation. “Linus Dahlander’s research spans a broad field related to innovation and entrepreneurship with a focus on how ideas develop into popular innovations in firms and networks,” says Maria Stanfors. “He has published studies on inter-organizational collaboration with a focus on technologically advanced firms and industries and has studied recent economic concepts such as ‘open innovation,’ ‘crowdsourcing,’ and ‘user communities’ using a wide range of methodologies. Linus Dahlander is a good representative of socially relevant research with a bearing on the future of business and entrepreneurship. Moreover, we at LUSEM are grateful for the generous donation that enables us to award the 2022 Jan Söderberg Family Prize in Economics and Management to Linus Dahlander and thereby build a new relationship and learn from him.”

The recipient of the Jan Söderberg Family Prize in Economics and Management is selected in an international competition at Lund University School of Economics and Management. It is awarded annually to a prominent researcher under the age of 50. The winner must have contributed significantly to research in the field of economics and management, and the work must have clearly innovated research and practice in the field. Eighty percent of the prize money of SEK 1 million is intended to support the recipient’s research and enable the recipient to employ and engage younger researchers.

On May 11, 2022, Linus Dahlander will hold a public lecture entitled “Business as usual? Business, risk, and entrepreneurship” at the annual “Economics and Management Day” in Lund. That evening, he will officially receive the award from the Lund University School of Economics and Management at a ceremony at the Grand Hotel in Lund.
