Open House days at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen

What does studying and teaching at the Hochschule für Künste (HfK) Bremen look like? How has the corona pandemic changed artistic creation in the fields of music, art and design? The HfK invites to Hochschultage, the university’s open house, on July 2 and 3, 2022. Among other things, exhibitions, installations, concerts, performances and lectures are on the program. Admission is free.

"During the Hochschultage, it is possible to take a look behind the scenes of the University of the Arts," said Fabian Brunke, event manager and HfK alumnus. "Of course, the experiences of the past years and months have had a lasting impact on artistic creation. That's why this year's open house will be held under the motto 'Zusammensein / Post-Togetherness'," explained Brunke.

Being together – what does that actually mean? The pandemic and the tense global political situation have left their mark on society. This is naturally also reflected in artistic works. During the Hochschultage, a variety of works and projects created in times of isolation and beyond in the study programs Music, Digital Media, Fine Arts and Integrated Design will be shown in and at Speicher XI. The transit to more normality – to more togetherness – is of particular importance.

The official start of the Hochschultage will be the opening ceremony, which will take place on July 2, 2022 at 2 p.m. In addition to speeches and diverse artistic contributions, the university awards will be presented for outstanding achievements in the study programs.

In 2022, the Hochschultage at the HfK will take place in the summer for the first time. The entire university becomes a space of experience: exhibitions, installations, concerts, performances and lectures by HfK students, lecturers and staff invite to think, watch and participate. Every year, several thousand visitors come to the open house.

Events take place both inside and outside Speicher XI. During the Hochschultage, ateliers, studios and workshops can be visited.

The Hochschultage bundle the perspectives of the entire university community. They showcase the artistic practices, musical diversity, discourses and projects of the HfK Bremen in all their facets.

About the Bremen University of the Arts / Hochschule für Künste Bremen (HfK)

The Hochschule für Künste Bremen is the leading art academy in Northwest Germany. With more than 1,000 students, 88 professors and 162 lecturers, the HfK Bremen offers a unique portfolio of courses and guarantees individual support for students in workshops, laboratories and studios as well as practice rooms and concert halls. The central quality of the HfK Bremen is the interdisciplinary connection of the different disciplines between art, design and music, which is developed in joint projects. The HfK Bremen has two locations, one in a historic warehouse building in the Überseestadt, the former docklands of Bremen, the other in a classicist building in the historic center of the city.
The university and its activities, ranging from exhibitions and interventions in public spaces to concerts and festivals, is a pillar of Bremen's cultural offerings (about 400 events at the HfK Bremen) and offers students many opportunities to test their skills in front of an audience.
As a historic Hanseatic city, Bremen has developed civic engagement, democratic traditions, idiosyncrasies and independence over centuries and is regarded in Germany as a pioneering and experimental city that is open to the new. Bremen is very popular among students as a place to live.
