INSPIRE-5Gplus: develops a new Open-Source MMT 5G monitoring framework

Pooja Mohnani Marketing and PR
EURESCOM European institute for research and strategic studies in telecommunications

H2020 project INSPIRE-5Gplus (https://www.inspire-5gplus.eu/), contributes to the monitoring of 5G protocols and the detection of 5G-specific cyberattacks.

The Horizon 2020 project INSPIRE-5Gplus(https://www.inspire-5gplus.eu/), continues to advance security of 5G and Beyond networks. As it is entirely devoted to improve security at various dimensions, the MMT (Montimage Monitoring Tool) framework has been extended, to cover the monitoring of 5G protocols and the detection of 5G-specific cyberattacks.

The framework is now being proposed through an Open-Source project in GitHub:
    https://github.com/montimage
    https://github.com/montimage/mmt-probe

The monitoring framework includes the following features:
    ● Real-time detection and prevention based on behaviour analysis of Network, Application and System traces.
    ● Protocol analysis and Deep Packet and Flow Inspection at all OSI levels (2-7).
    ● Easy to define Security Service Level Agreements.
    ● Scalability and adaptability in different environments and business activity.
    ● IoT wireless communication analysis.
    ● Highly configurable probes for lightweight and heavyweight data capturing and processing.
    ● The framework currently supports the following 5G protocols: NAS, S1AP, GTP, SCTP, DIAMETER, NAS_5G, SNGAP, GTPV2.

    Ongoing integrations:
    ● AI for traffic classification of encrypted traffic, anomaly/evasion detection, and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
    ● High-precision monitoring using In-Band Networking Telemetry and P4 language for detecting security issues impacting low-latency applications.
    ● Integration in the 5G core developed and commercialised by Cumucore (https://cumucore.com/)

Montimage, who has developed this framework from scratch, offers commercial services that include training, support, specification of detection rules, implementation of new detection algorithms and Artificial Intelligence models, and more.

    About the INSPIRE-5Gplus project

The Horizon 2020 project INSPIRE-5Gplus will advance security of 5G and Beyond networks. Grounded in an integrated network management system and relevant frameworks, INSPIRE-5Gplus is entirely devoted to improve security at various dimensions, i.e., overall vision, use cases, architecture, integration to network management, assets, and models. INSPIRE-5Gplus will address key security challenges through vertical applications ranging from autonomous and connected cars to Critical Industry 4.0. The project started on 1st November 2020 and will end on 31st October 2022. It is performed by a consortium of 14 European partners from industry and academia.

    Hilfe
