Symposium at Frankfurt UAS presents results of the DFG KOPRO Int. project/Call for Papers/Participation until October 15, 2023
Co-production plays an important role in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's) and improving living conditions in urban areas. But how are communal practices defined and established? How can projects scale-up to continue beyond the pilot stage and become public policies? What do we learn for sustainable urban design as a communal practice? These and other questions are addressed by the research project for the German Research Foundation: "Concepts of 'co-production' and their influence on the development of integrative urban spaces" (DFG KOPRO Int.). It will be carried out jointly by researchers from the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences (Frankfurt UAS) and other research institutions – particularly in Germany and Chile – until 2024, and is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The results will be presented in a final symposium entitled "What kind of resources do we share" at Frankfurt UAS on January 29 and 30, 2024. Through workshops, discussion formats, keynotes and exhibitions, the event focuses on the three main research dimensions: Governance Structures and Scaling-up of Projects, Urban Spatial Dynamics and Co-production Outcomes, and their Transformative Potential and Integrative Character in the Context of Complex Urban Developments, and seeks to place the case study findings in the context of the broader scholarly debate.
Call for Papers/Participation
In the context of research, projects, initiatives, collectives and researchers are invited to participate in the symposium and present their work to further explore perspectives and possibilities of co-production in urban development in the form of exhibitions, lectures or presentations. Contributions can be submitted via email to dfg_koproint@fb1.fra-uas.de until October 15, 2023. More information about the project and the call for Papers/Participation can be found at http://www.frankfurt-university.de/pdf-Call-DFG-KOPRO-Int.

About DFG_KOPRO Int.
The research project DFG Kopro Int. aims to make an innovative contribution to the various debates on co-production in planning and development by focusing on the negotiation processes (Governance) between different stakeholders, by network analysis and by researching socio-spatial material consequences. Via a comparison of case studies from Latin America and Europe – specifically Chile and Germany – an overview of various governance models against different socio-cultural and economic backgrounds was obtained. In the second research phase, the focus was set to further investigate sustainability aspects of co-production projects and how different approaches and actor networks might have an impact on the implementation of the New Urban Agenda.
