Project SNS ICE takes center stage at 5G Techritory

On 18th and 19th October 2023, the SNS ICE project (Smart Networks and Services International and European Cooperation Ecosystem), took a center stage at the 5G Techritory Forum and marked its shared vision for the future of 5G technology, industry leadership, and transformative innovations.

5G Techritory is a global platform that brings together industry leaders, experts, and
innovators to drive the development and implementation of 5G and beyond technology. It serves as a dynamic space for collaboration and innovation, setting the stage for the future of connectivity and communication.

SNS ICE is an ambassador project to bring together the key players in B5G and 6G Smart Networks and Services (SNS) development with the goal of developing a robust and aligned B5G/SNS Ecosystem in Europe and beyond. 5G Techritory, witnessed SNS ICE's active participation in three co-creation sessions and a thought-provoking panel discussion. The co creation sessions brought together experts of varied backgrounds working on common goals, and focused on important key actions covering:

“National Initiatives: This session focused on different approaches to European collaboration for 6G research”. At this event, opportunities for cooperation and collaboration between national initiatives working on 6G in Europe and EU-level funded programs were explored. The workshop brought together members from industry, academia and government. As outcome of the discussions, a number of specific collaborative actions were identified.

“5G for sustainability, the future role of 6G”: This session witnessed speakers from SNS-JU (Smart Networks and Systems Joint Undertaking) HEXA-X-II, GSMA, 6G-IA (6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association) and ESA (European Space Agency) that focused on the sustainability challenges for the forthcoming 6G system. It covered aspects about sustainability encompassing environmental, social and economic drivers and discussions laid the foundation towards a sustainable and user-centric future system.

“5G for verticals: from large scale trials to adoption, driving economic value in Europe”: This session shared the 5GPPP (5G Public-Private Partnership) and SNS JU experience in developing mobile technologies, from lab-testing and real-life trials to facilitating deployment in the field. 6G-IA members shared results on trials to validate vertical uses cases, and how their lessons learned could assist the development and deployment of future networks, while industrial players shared their experience on bringing 5G to the real world and their vision for the early-stage involvement of vertical stakeholders in the development and deployment process for future networks.
During the co-creation sessions, SNS ICE's experts engaged in dynamic brainstorming, fostering an environment where fresh ideas and breakthroughs regarding B5G and 6G SNS technological enablers were discussed.

The highlight of the event was the panel discussion, on “Why 6G? The need for the next generation smart networks & services and lessons learned from previous generations, where expert representatives of key sectors such as Mobile Network Operators (MNO), vendors, regulators, vertical industries and the SNS-JU office, shared their insights and expertise on the current state of 6G technology, the evolutionary and revolutionary path to 6G, its applications, and the roadmap for the future. Their contributions shed light on the pivotal role of 6G Smart Networks and Services in shaping industries and enhancing connectivity on a global scale.

About SNS ICE: the project aims to foster technological innovation and continues to fulfill its commitment in shaping the future of SNS. Detailed reports on the discussions, insights and key outcomes of the above events will soon be publicly available via SNS ICE’s public deliverables, while short videos with expert interviews from these events will also be published.

The SNS ICE project is a coordination and support action under SNS -JU and has the objectives to present, leverage, and position the SNS JU activities and achievements in major European and global fora. It supports a collaborative environment for European and global stakeholders involved in the preparation of 6G smart networks and services.
