GFFA expert panel on sustainable water use and innovative agricultural technologies in Eastern Europe and Central Asia

Daniela Schimming Presse- und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit
Leibniz-Institut für Agrarentwicklung in Transformationsökonomien (IAMO)

Within the framework of the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA), IAMO in cooperation with the German Agribusiness Alliance (GAA) organises a panel discussion entitled “Getting to the point: sustainable water use and innovative agricultural technologies in Eastern European and Central Asian agriculture” on 16 January 2026 in Berlin, Germany.

Water is the basis of life for fauna and flora as well as thus for human nutrition. In times of climate change, water is a precious key resource. Efficient water use is therefore of utmost importance to secure food production, including in increasingly arid regions. Against this backdrop, innovative agricultural technologies play a central role.

The expert panel will discuss with representatives from international politics, science, and business the challenges facing countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia with regard to sustainable water use in agriculture. What problems and solutions exist in practice? And how can the application of water-efficient agricultural technologies be further expanded?

    Keynote Speaker

Nodir Djanibekov, Deputy Head of Department Agricultural Policy, Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Transition Economies (IAMO)

    Panel Guests
