Health Education for All: A program featuring expert presentations and interactive learning stations begins on April 14, 2026.
Starting April 14, the Patient University at Hannover Medical School (MHH) will once again provide interested individuals with medical knowledge in an accessible and practical way. In the lecture series “Modern Medicine – Understanding and Applying It,” MHH experts will explore topics such as virus control, diseases of the kidneys, lungs, and liver, as well as preparation for surgery. “With the Patient University, we want to empower people to better understand health and make informed decisions,” says Professor Marie-Luise Dierks, director of the Patient University.
A wide range of educational programs on modern medicine, prevention, and treatment options
The series kicks off on April 14, 2026, with the topic “Principles of Surgical Oncology and Treatment Options for Peritoneal Metastases.” A week later, on April 21, the focus will be on memory. On May 5, the focus will be on the early detection and treatment of chronic kidney disease. Several topics will follow in early June: On June 3, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) will be examined; on June 4, the musician Franz Schubert and his illness will be discussed; and on June 9, participants will receive tips on how to best prepare for surgery and ensure a speedy recovery. On June 16, the focus is on the effects of music on the brain, including a musical performance. The series concludes before the summer break with lectures on June 23 on fatty liver disease, a silent epidemic, and on June 30 on preventive care, end-of-life care, and grief.
Expert presentations followed by a discussion session and learning stations
The events take place at 6 p.m. at MHH, but are also available online on YouTube. Each event features an expert presentation followed by a discussion panel. After each presentation, relevant learning stations are set up. Here, participants can exchange ideas with the experts, ask questions, try things out for themselves, and deepen their knowledge. Participation is free and does not require registration. The detailed program can be viewed at http://www.patienten-universitaet.de.
