With “PsyGames 2026 – Psychology via Games”, Kempten University of Applied Sciences is organising an academic conference on 26 September 2026 that, for the first time in the German-speaking world, will systematically address the use of customised computer games as a research tool in psychology. The call for papers is now open and runs until 30 April.
The event focuses on the question of how computer-based games can be used to generate new scientific insights in psychological research. The aim is to bring together current research, further develop methodological approaches and promote interdisciplinary exchange.
The conference is seeking papers on the following topics:
- Computer games as a research tool in psychology
- Empirical game studies in basic psychological research
- Games in psychological diagnosis, therapy and intervention
Contributions on the psychology of game design are not within the scope of the conference, in order to maintain a consistent focus on the use of games in research.
We particularly welcome empirical and methodological work from psychology and related disciplines relating to the use of digital games in research. The conference is also aimed at students, lecturers and researchers with an academic interest in game studies.
All submissions will be reviewed by an independent, external programme committee using an anonymised double-blind peer-review process.
Submission
- Submissions may be in German or English.
- Titles and abstracts must be submitted by 30 April 2026.
- The full paper must be submitted by 15 June 2026.
Publication and Participation
Accepted papers will be published in a bilingual conference proceedings volume (German/English). Participation in the conference is free of charge; participants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation costs.
