On June 27, 2026, downtown Bremen will become a gathering place for anyone who wants to experience science up close. From 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the first-ever Science Day will take place. The University of Bremen will be participating as well.

Under the motto "Experience. Marvel. Understand," the Senator for the Environment, Climate, and Science, the House of Science, and over 55 academic institutions cordially invite all Bremen residents and visitors to discover the fascinating world of research in the city center.

Science for Everyone – Right in the Heart of Bremen

Science Day will bring the diversity of science from Bremen and Bremerhaven directly to the heart of the city. The varied program offers something for everyone, whether young or old, with or without prior knowledge: there are interactive hands-on activities, exciting experiments, engaging presentations, and plenty of opportunities to get involved. All activities are free for visitors.

The goal is to make science understandable and tangible, strengthen the dialogue between research and society, and showcase Bremen's innovation and commitment to the future.

The events and activities will take place at central locations: Domshof, the Open Space Domshof stage, the House of Science, and the Banking Hall of Forum at Domshof. This makes science accessible to everyone – right in the heart of downtown Bremen.

Diverse University Program – From Exhibitions to Talks

The University of Bremen will be represented at Science Day with over 30 program items. At the pagoda city at Domshof, several faculties, the Institute for Labour and Economy (iaw), MARUM – Center for Marine Environmental Sciences, and the Central Student Advisory Service, among others, will be showcasing their work. In the Banking Hall of the Forum at Domshof building, visitors can view the “Missed Images” exhibition, featuring AI-generated images of female pioneers and scientists. Additionally, talks by researchers will take place at various locations. For example, Dr. Tanja Stratmann from MARUM – Center for Marine Environmental Sciences will present images of deep-sea ecosystems and Dr. Florian Meyer and Sean Hicken from the Center of Applied Space Technology and Microgravity (ZARM) will explain to young people what happens when a fire breaks out in a space station.

Science Day was developed in collaboration with universities, research institutes, associations, museums, and Open Space Domshof. It serves as the highlight of the 2026 theme year, "Phenomenal 2026: Discover Bremen. Experience Knowledge," organized by WFB Wirtschaftsförderung Bremen GmbH. A total of 55 institutions are participating with approximately 90 contributions. Visitors can look forward to gaining exciting insights into current research topics ranging from artificial intelligence and climate research to space travel, health, digitalization, and future societal issues. With science slams, workshops, and engaging activities for children and teens, visitors can get hands-on, try new things, and share their ideas.

Science Day is a new event format launched by the Senator for the Environment, Climate, and Science in collaboration with WFB Wirtschaftsförderung Bremen GmbH and the House of Science. The goal is to forge closer ties between science and urban society, as well as to strengthen the visibility of Bremen and Bremerhaven as science hubs.
