PERFECT Start: University of Applied Sciences Mainz Receives EU Subsidies to Create the EU Purchasing Curriculum of the Future in Cooperation with European Partners.
Project PERFECT („Purchasing Education and Research for European Competence Transfer“) is funded by the European Commission in the context of the Erasmus+ program “KA2-Cooperation for Innovation and the Exchange of Good Practices. Strategic Partnerships for higher education”
In 2015, eleven out of 62 proposals were granted so far which equals a success rate of 18%. The good news reached the team of Univ. Prof. Dr. habil. Michael Henke (TU Dortmund), Prof. Dr. Lydia Bals (University of Applied Sciences Mainz), Prof. Dr. Holger Schiele (Twente University, Netherlands), Prof. Dr. Stephen Kelly (University of Staffordshire, UK), Prof. Dr. Jukka Hallikas (Lappeenranta University, Finland): Project PERFECT was rated with over 95 out of 100 possible points.
The fundamental goal of PERFECT is the formulation of a pan-European purchasing curriculum. In contrast to the status quo in other disciplines, no standardized curriculum on university level for the training of future purchasers is to be found worldwide.
The project is a huge chance for European enterprises, because approximately half of the sales are influenced by suppliers. In addition, many suppliers have their offices abroad and a pan-European orientation in connection with the Erasmus+ program offers the chance to directly prepare students for activities in an international environment. Furthermore, the project will make it easier for students to acquire qualifications in the field of purchasing in different institutions because of improved coordination. In order to sensitize a broad audience for this strategically important topic, a basic course in the form of a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) will be developed as well.
To ensure broad dissemination of the results right from the start so numerous students will benefit from the project soon, the project partners work closely with the two international associations IPSERA (International Purchasing and Supply Education and Research Association) and IFPSM (International Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management). IPSERA organizes an annual research conference in which most of the European universities take part. The next one is going to take place between March 23rd and March 26th 2016 in Dortmund and is arranged by the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (IML) and the Chair of Enterprise Logistics (LFO) of TU Dortmund.
The lead management and the project management are executed by Univ. Prof. Dr. habil. Michael Henke and Dipl. Logist. Natalia Straub of TU Dortmund, Chair of Enterprise Logistics. However, all participating parties assume leading tasks in the eight work packages of the project. The University of Applied Sciences Mainz, represented by Prof. Dr. Lydia Bals, will lead the case study research package to determine best practices in Purchasing & Supply Management, which are the base for the subsequent survey. The project will start in September 2015 and runs over three years. The planned subsidy amounts to 437,718.00 Euro.
