Universität Hohenheim

The University of Hohenheim figures amongst the best quarter of universities ranked worldwide in the life sciences and among the best third in the business, economics, and social sciences

It is highly specialized – and holds its own against larger, comprehensive universities: For the life sciences the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart is one of the world's top 201-250 universities, in the field of business and economics it ranks among the top 251-300 and in social sciences among the top 301-400 universities. This was the result of the THE World University Rankings by Subject published by the Times Higher Education (THE) Supplement on 21 January 2026. This success is also due to Hohenheim's leading topic which links both areas: the bioeconomy. To the ranking: https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/by-subject

For the life sciences, the University of Hohenheim is in the top quarter of the 1,211 ranked universities. For the business and economics and for the social sciences, it is in the top third of the 1,067 respective 1,202 universities ranked.

According to the THE Ranking, the life sciences encompass agriculture and forestry, biological sciences, veterinary science, and sport science. Business and economics encompass business and management, accounting and finance, economics, and econometrics. Social Sciences includes communication and media studies, politics and international studies, sociology, and geography.

Bioeconomy combines business, economics, and the life sciences

At the University of Hohenheim, the two areas are linked by a common guiding theme: bioeconomy. Their goal is to create a sustainable concept for a future-proof economy that conserves energy and resources.

Research and teaching can only contribute to this if they take into account the interplay of economic, ecological, social, ethical, and legal aspects. This is how the University of Hohenheim is meeting the major challenges of our time such as climate change mitigation, food security, species protection, and the sustainable management of natural resources.
