The European University Institute (EUI) is an international teaching and research institution for postgraduate students and post-doctoral fellows. It was founded by the EU member states as an independent institution of the European Union to contribute to the cultural and scientific development of economics, history, law, political science, and social sciences from a European perspective.

The Ginzburg Lecture at the Italy Forum of Goethe University commemorates the Italian historian and cultural scholar Carlo Ginzburg, who passed away this year and was one of the main representatives of the concept of microhistory.
