Battery Specialists meet in Münster / Conference on Advanced Battery Power on 26 and 27 April

Dr. Christina Heimken Presse- und Informationsstelle
Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster

Focusing recent developments in battery research: MEET, the Battery Research Centre of the University of Münster will stage the 8th international conference on Advanced Battery Power on 26 and 27 April 2016. The venue is “Messe und Congress Centrum Halle Münsterland” in the city of Münster, Germany.

MEET, the Battery Research Centre of the University of Münster will stage the 8th international conference on Advanced Battery Power on 26 and 27 April 2016. The venue is “Messe und Congress Centrum Halle Münsterland” in the city of Münster. MEET, ISEA (Institute for Power Electronics and Electrical Drives) of RWTH Aachen University and Haus der Technik (Essen) will be your hosts. The special target group for this conference are scientists from academia as well as development engineers and users from industry all over the world. Münster and Aachen take turns in hosting this repeating event.

The conference is a great opportunity to get informed about recent developments in battery research. It serves as a platform for face-to-face communication and for developing ideas outside the box. The versatile agenda comprises the entire battery supply chain from raw materials to the battery cell, from individual cells to entire battery systems for mobile and stationary applications.

“We will discuss existing battery solutions such as lead-acid and lithium-ion battery systems but also next-generation batteries which are currently being investigated in basic research activities”, explains Prof Martin Winter of MEET to mention just one of the conference’s areas of emphasis. He will chair and assume the scientific lead of the conference together with Prof Dirk Uwe Sauer of RWTH Aachen. The next-gen systems, so-called post-lithium-ion batteries, include lithium-air and lithium-sulfur systems but also sodium-based and all-solid-state batteries.

The two-day programme is packed with 60 informative lectures, and more than 190 junior and senior scientists will present their posters at this outstanding event which is expected to be attended by approximately 650 participants. Please check www.battery-power.eu for details of the programme. The conference language is English.

The day prior to the conference, i.e. 25 April 2016, will see the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Research of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia stage Battery Day NRW. It will be organised by Haus der Technik, together with the clusters named EnergieForschung.NRW, EnergieRegion.NRW, NanoMikroWerkstoffe.NRW and Elektromobility NRW. These clusters provide insight into a broad range of research topics in the context of energy research and supply, nano/micro materials and electro-mobility. This event will be held in German and chaired again by Dirk Uwe Sauer and Martin Winter. The focus here is on various battery activities pursued by different regional players.
